Lovely cottage in the old part of the village (Milfontes was founded in 1485), facing the pier at the mouth of the river where the river Mira meets the Ocean. It has been used for family beach retreats, reading/writing holidays, and cozy Christmases, and everything in the house will help you towards these endeavours!

It has three floors. On the ground floor, there is a living room with a dining area and small kitchen. The living room has hundreds of books of a wide range of genres in English,French and Portuguese. I keep most of my fiction at Mira Mira, ranging from P.D. James to Granta Magazines to the Greek classics. It has two small sofas and a dining room table seating 6, as well as a fireplace.
The kitchen has an elevator (a dumb-waiter) to take food to the roofterrace on the top floor. The terrace is perfect for meals - we usually have all our meals there in summer. Thisterrace has protection to keep children safe. We also have a sun-lounger there for tanning, and a sink and small fridge for making cocktails. ...

Just inside the terrace is a studio with a double futon (great for breezy naps), and a table for writing and amusements. In winter we light the cast iron stove.

Take the spiral staircase down to the middle floor, and you will find the master bedroom, and a bedroom with one or two beds. Both bedrooms with river view.

Each floor has a bathroom. One of the bathrooms has a full bath, and the top floor has a wetroom (like showering in a sailboat!).

The house is cool in summer because of the very thick stone walls, and every room has a built-in heater for winter (plus the fireplace). There is a iron stove in the Studio. You'll also find a TV and DVD player, dishwasher and washing machine, and all the kitchen basics (microwave, toaster, etc ... ).

Located in Rua do Sol, one of the oldest and best preserved traditional streets in Milfontes, the cottage is just a few dozen meters away from the old town street commerce and restaurants, as from the fort, barbacã (lookout point), the river crossing peer, riverside walkway and the old church among many other attractions. It is right there next to the best spots yet away from the busy streets and from any noise.

The regional location is also excellent - within easy reach of all the wild beaches of the Alentejo protected coast, with magnificent hiking trails. Within Milfontes, you can hire bikes, taking surfing/kayaking lessons, go fishing and horse riding, or just sip caipirinhas on the beach. There are excellent restaurants and bars in town, and the house is very close to the post office, supermarkets and shops, but nicely tucked away from the noise.

Be it for a vacation retreat, living or even renting it out, the nice cottage is unique in its location, features and potential.
